Two classes on the U.S. Constitution were held in March, sponsored by the Franklin County Patriots and presented by Jeff Teismann. The first class on March 13th was a “practice class” for FCP members and attracted 5 attendees. The second class, presented one week later, saw the number of attendees double to ten.
State Representative Brian Nieves made a surprise visit at the March 20th class, staying for several hours before other business called him away. He expressed his support and appreciation for the Franklin County Patriots for sponsoring the classes and to those in attendance for spending their time to learn more about the Constitution. He arrived with pocket-size versions of the Constitution to hand out, but found that everyone in attendance already had their own copy.
The class covered all the Articles of, and Amendments to, the U.S. Constitution. Because of the health care debate going on in Washington, there was extended discussion regarding Article I, Section 5 of the Constitution dealing with Congressional rules and procedures. The enumerated powers of Congress outlined in Article I, Section 8 were also covered in detail.
In addition to covering the Constitution, Jeff likes to “frame” the Constitution by discussing the Constitutional Convention and the various issues of contention that arose during the convention. Understanding these issues, and how they were resolved gives a better understanding of the kind of government the Framers provided us with.
The class also covers some basic ideas, such as why we have governments and how our form of government differs from those that came before it, and the impact our Constitution has had in forging a new beginning not only for our nation, but for the entire world.
Jeff has agreed to present another class if there is enough interest. If you are interested in attending, or know someone who would be, let us know. Drop us an email at Patriots@FranklinCountyPatriots.org.

Where do you hold the classes?
